Back in the Saddle... sort of

Hello again, dear reader. I have to admit I feel a lot like Stoick right now, "finally I can show my face in public again!" It's been far too long since the last update on this story and some of you may have been wondering what became of it. Most of the writing of this last chapter took place five months ago, and in that time before our planned post date I really pressed myself an edge too far. My body needed relief from the stress I put on myself because of this story, and the fandom associated with it. I snapped and just needed an escape. So I basically disappeared from the Internet for the most part, and only now have I gotten up the strength to tackle this again, because like I said in the beginning I want to see this story to the end, with the most capable hands I can give it, for the most quality tale I can tell. I'm shooting to finish this story before the sequel comes out. *crossing fingers*

Muse on the Run...

Dear Readers! It's been a ridiculously long time since we last updated. For that I'm really, very sincerely sorry. No, we haven't decided to stop updating. We love this story to bits and we are going to finish it, like we promised when it began. But the muse has been really difficult this update, and an apology/explanation from us has been long overdue. For us, this project has been going on for more than a year. It takes more and more of us to push out a chapter. The emotional investment for what I call quality is a blessing and a curse when it comes to writing. The sequel trailer blew some wind out of our sails, in some way. Seeing canon come alive and all the speculation that comes with it really threw off our imagination for our little story I guess. For weeks, I've put off messages and projects to sit and stare at a Text Edit hoping for inspiration to strike, and I did force out around 5000 words of this chapter's word count. It isn't my best writing, and I'm still not finished enough for a post. This update is just to apologize for the long wait we've given you guys, and to assure you all we haven't let this story go. I want to post this update very soon, actually today was what I was hoping for (August 30) but I can't make guarantees as it is. I need to find that old place I can immerse myself into my characters again. Because I do want to give you all the best story possible.

Genesis of a Story

Something I thought I'd share with you all. Today is the day this webnovel began. June 8, 2012, with the random, uncontexted image which inspired me and my sister to create some kind of backstory to explain it...

As  I said on my deviantArt post of this image,

So... exactly a year ago today, I drew this picture, inspired by random conversations with my sister: about the slavemarking that we heard the books had (we hadn't read the books then), moral dilemmas, and what if Hiccup had to choose between saving his father and going to war? We'd just learned about the "Heather" who was causing rumors and waves in the fandom since she was just a leaked character from the much-anticipated HTTYD TV show spinoff. She was supposed to be a villain of sorts so I thought, how villainous?

That's how the drawing came out, and how my sister and I were entranced by it -- how young the characters were, how determined Heather was to kill, and how vulnerable poor Hiccup seemed here in his room.

The following days we non-stop talked about a sequel to this picture, and an explanation for it. The next day it grew into a full-fledged novel outline, which though so different from the outline and the actual plotline of the novel now, still contains a few of the basic landmarks we dreamed up a year ago. We wanted to challenge each major relationship in HTTYD, and we wanted to do everything that we hoped the HTTYD sequel itself would have. We imagined it as our "movie" and even the first writings of it reflected that vision, as it was more script and less novel in feel.

Read it on your iPad!! Whoooo!

Readers! Exciting, unexpected news here. A reader on our deviantArt page was trying to format our whole novel into an ePub file format for his Kindle, from a Word document. But because I own Adobe inDesign I had the capability to create a niftier version of our novel, illustrations and all! So, I was half-helping him and half-exploring new tech skills. Making an eBook is heaps of fun, and I hope the e-reader friendly version of this story makes it easier to get through the word count. cheeky It's weird to see our story on the iPad, I really don't think it's half-worthy to be in such a gorgeous format, but anywho, it's still exciting, and I hope people can enjoy it!

Here's the download link from Google Docs. Don't mind the page which warns about Google's inability to scan for viruses. It's a safe file. smiley

Riders of Berk: We Are Family

Guys! In light of the recent Riders of Berk episode, my sister and I have decided to hold off a story update til after the final episode of this season. While we usually like to play it dangerous updating with recent RoB hints here and there in our new chapters, this time the fire is much too close. Riders of Berk: We Are Family has the same main plot as our current webnovel arc, and we think it's important that we see what canon makes of the situation before we interpret it in our own fanfiction.

In the meantime, we'll be catching up on stuff, watching the History Channel's Viking series (because we are so sorely lacking in historical skills LOL), and drawing and stuff. I might post a few of my HTTYD one-shots in the break. Anywho, hope y'all are having a great day!

By the way, if you haven't seen the latest heart-pounding episode, be sure to do so at my Database page on my Tumblr:

And thank you, all our readers, who've stayed with us this long. My sister and I really do appreciate your support for our little contribution to the HTTYD fanfiction world. :)
